Run-down station transformed into pilgrim hostel
The Municipal Pilgrims’ Hostel was inaugurated this Monday and is now available to pilgrims.
The “Albergue do Apeadeiro”, with capacity for 12 people and spread over two floors, is now equipped with facilities that will allow its occupants to recover from their journey in comfort and socialize with each other.
The management of this new facility will be the responsibility of the Portuguese Red Cross, Cucujães delegation.
The project involved an investment of around 200,000 euros, of which Community support amounted to 139,055.47 euros. Project promoted by the Municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis and co-financed by ADRITEM, under Measure 10.2 of Leader| PDR 2020.
The new municipal infrastructure is intended to support pilgrims from Fátima and Santiago de Compostela who pass through this area, whose numbers have increased substantially in recent years.
