To the mouth of the Zêzere
[Abrantes - Constância]Between the city of Abrantes and the town of Constância, the route is quiet, following south-facing hills and slopes with the river on the horizon, allowing us to learn about local, regional, and national history, from ancient times to the present day. Before leaving Abrantes, the city deserves an attentive and prolonged visit to explore its harmonious streets and squares and to discover its important historical heritage, made up of churches and former convents from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, but also the Iberian Museum of Archaeology and Art, where historical memory and contemporary art coexist. On the hill with panoramic views over the Tagus stands the monumental complex formed by the Church of Santa Maria and the Fortress. Leaving the city, the landscape offers a view of fertile agricultural fields, well irrigated, where olive groves predominate and old fishing villages stand. The town of Constância spreads out along a hillside to the riverfront, at the confluence of the River Zêzere and the River Tagus. Enjoy the scenery, savour the famous local cuisine, and visit the Horto de Camões, a small garden that evokes the great 16th-century poet.
