Tourism of Alentejo and Ribatejo – ERT upgrades the signage for the Fatima Walking Routes in Ribatejo

The Tourism of Alentejo and Ribatejo – ERT has upgraded the entire signage system for the Fátima Walking Routes in the municipalities that are part of its area of intervention in Ribatejo and that are part of the Tagus Route, in this case, Azambuja, Cartaxo, and Santarém.
The intervention, coordinated with the Centro Nacional de Cultura, which owns the Fátima Walking Routes brand, covered the Tagus Route, to “ensure greater safety, enjoyment and guidance for pilgrims and walkers who travel through our area of intervention in Ribatejo,” says Pedro Beato, Vice-President of the Tourism of Alentejo and Ribatejo – ERT.
“From Vila Nova da Rainha, in the municipality of Azambuja, passing through Valada in Cartaxo, to the northern edge of the municipality of Santarém, signage has been improved to make the route safer and more pleasant, encouraging the use of local roads rather than busy motorways, and allowing travellers to enjoy the landscape and nature,” Pedro Beato emphasises.
In total, there were more than 230 points of intervention, including painting the typical blue arrows of the Fátima Walking Routes, installing signposts, applying tiles and maintaining existing signage. In addition, the main points of interest were identified, totalling 34 entries, and their respective content was developed. He concluded by stating that it was ‘literally fieldwork and historical-cultural research, aimed at promoting the “Fátima” phenomenon, both in terms of its religious and spiritual importance and its tourist appeal, which spans our area of intervention in Ribatejo’.
