Summer course at the Shrine of Fatima has programme and speakers announced

Face-to-face training is scheduled for 2, 3 and 4 July and will focus on the history, culture, spirituality and message of Fatima.

“What chapters for the history of Fatima? The genesis of a publication” is the theme of the next Summer School of the Shrine of Fatima. Unlike the winter seminars, the Summer Course will take place in person at the Paul VI Pastoral Centre, from 2 to 4 July, and will be limited to a maximum of 120 participants.

The presentation of the programme and the themes of the various interventions took place during the last session of the online seminar DesCodificar Fátima, at the end of which Marco Daniel Duarte stressed that the 10th edition of the Summer Course will deal with ‘themes of the history, culture, spirituality and message of Fatima’. Within the general theme, Sister Lucia’s handwritten words ‘to see the history of Fatima as it is’ (from the Second Memoir) are already evident in the image of the three-day training programme.

On the first day, 2nd July, the conferences ‘God and religion in contemporary thought: Fatima, between the time of conflict and the time of indifference’, by Cardinal António Marto, will take place. António Marto; ‘The century of Fatima: Portugal and the world’, by José Miguel Sardica; ‘The narrative of Fatima: angelic, Marian and Cordimarian cycles (from the primordial sources to the readings of the phenomenon)’, by Agripina Vieira; and ‘Lucia de Jesus, Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto, unlikely protagonists of 20th century history and the beginning of the 21st century’, by Marco Daniel Duarte.

The themes for 3 July will be ‘The theological and spiritual corpus of Fatima’, by Father Carlos Cabecinhas, rector of the Shrine of Fatima; ‘Fatima and Rome: the Popes’ vision of Fatima’, by Aura Miguel; “The most political of the Marian apparitions: Fatima and the fight against atheism”, by André Melícias; and “Pilgrimage and religious practices in Fatima”, by Alfredo Teixeira.

On July 4, participants will be able to look at ‘Fatima in the world: the diffusion of a religious phenomenon in a time of globalisation’, by Sónia Vazão; ‘Fatima and artistic creation: the Shrine and Iconography’, by Marco Daniel Duarte; ‘Fatima and the Media: telling through writing, sound and image’, by Luís Ferraz; and ‘The translation of a historical event: listening, narrating, reading and interpreting Fatima’, by Marco Daniel Duarte.

The Summer School will end with a reflection on the themes covered during the three days of training.
