The Nazaré Route
Nazaré to Fátima | 50 km | 2 days
It is located in a characteristic territory of central Portugal, which stretches from the Atlantic coast to the hilly interior. It joins two important Marian shrines: the historic Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazareth, implanted in a promontory or finisterra on the sea and whose origin goes back to ancestral times, and the remarkable Sanctuary of Fátima that was constructed from the XX century in the Cova da Iria in the place of the apparitions of 1917.
The landscape is diverse. After a scenario of maritime influence that marks the beginning of the course, there is a vast area of pine and várzea and then enters the mountainous area of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park. To the full extent, nature is striking, in a setting where rural settlements and small urban settlements emerge. Churches, chapels, hermitages and small local shrines are points of reference along the route.
